Summer Storm by Stephanie V Sears

imago_mortis_by_menervatau-d9kx1y1

The hour contrives a fragrance

of laurel and alpine water.

A baby follows with kitten eyes

the liede of rain on his cowry skin.

Then heavy drops thud in Iron Age rituals.

At windows geraniums blow kisses

to the gusty surge of trees

where turbulent shadows build

dungeons, unearth crypts

bind the dragon to the cloud

in a story that is retold

for no other purpose than

the mother, daughter, child

keeping their immutable vigil of love.

Mother has chiseled auburn hair

invincible Ptolemaic features.

Under the dark voluptuous foliage

daughter blazes like a harvest

Magi infant waves his arms

spell-binding the black lake

monogrammed with swans before

the mineral decrees of teatime

on thick rugs where the old

continent long made itself at home

and charm bracelets jingle across

the table like gold dockets of magic.
