how long has this voice been living
within the feather folds of these swans,
feather ridge ribbed birds, with SNAP
finger straight through bone
tendon splitting at both ends, how long
how long has this voice been there, don’t leave
her there, there are swans, hissing swans,
crooked swans, don’t leave don’t leave,
necks curled, eyes swallowing
queens among prey.
