constant migraine
pale sunlit window
wife’s eye swollen
and pink
no toast left
no coffee
no desire
to do anything
there’s football on TV
politics
both games played
poorly
and without shame
audibles
alternative facts
euphemisms often
a slow, confusing grind
to nothing
wife smiles
eye dripping
looks bad
infected
I haven’t taken care of her
like I should
at the hospital
we wait
I cross my legs
watch my shoelaces
hanging there
we need groceries
clean clothes
and something else
I can’t quite remember
it’s alright though
little distractions
such as these
are necessary
to keep
going
