who hung himself outside
the hospital I used to go to

leather slap-braceleted
around a live wood
rattled pink petals
and the reporter said nothing
of God’s rooted hands, His termite-
ridden fingernails, much less how
when the man lifted his feet, placed them
on the acne-scarred trunk
each stepped-on blade
stretched back toward the sky
sun salutations in shadow
