Broken Bones by Rachael Gay

Do you know how many women

in your family history

were broken, reset, and broken again?

How much do you really know about them beyond

their name,

the number of children they brought forth,

and their secret recipes

You can name their husband’s accomplishments with ease

but see their wives and daughters as nothing more

than vessels with varying levels of fullness.

Don’t you realize that the sea is full of their tears,

left over from being poured out?
